TORONTO: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) expressed disappointment today at Premier McGuinty's refusal to defend his signing of the CTF Election Pledge not to raise taxes and not run a deficit. The comments were made this morning to reporters before caucus at Queen's Park.
"Mr. McGuinty campaigned on the pledge. He was elected on the pledge. He must be held accountable for his promise," said Tasha Kheiriddin, CTF Ontario Director. She added, "It's not only a promise, but it's the law. The Taxpayer Protection and Balanced Budget Act was enacted to protect taxpayers from politicians who would overtax, overspend, and send this province deeper into debt."
On May 6 and 7, the CTF is running a radio advertising campaign, asking taxpayers to tell the Premier to keep his word.
The ads will run on CFRB Toronto, CJBK London and CKTB Niagara.
"The CTF has received thousands of online signatures, and more are coming in every day." said Kheiriddin. "If taxpayers want to send a message to Queen's Park, this is the way to do it."
